Qingdao People¡¯s Congress Hall was constructed on the
site of General Military Office of Qing Dynasty in May of 1959 and was finished
on May 30, 1960 with maidenhair tree and poplar reserved. The congress hall
occupies an area of 18000 square meters, of which the construction area
is 12000 square meters. The building is majestic with imitative Beijing
People¡¯s Congress Hall. Qingdao People¡¯s Congress Hall is located in the center of old urban area within famous and beautiful seaside scenic spots, looking Zhanqiao and Xiaoqingdao to a certain distance. There is People¡¯s Park opposite to it, surrounded by pines and other green trees, where is an elegant environment combines natural and manmade beauty. It is an golden place to put on performance, hold exposition, discuss business and travel around, etc.
Qingdao People¡¯s Congress Hall ever held important international and domestic conferences and activities, received leaders such as Deng Xiaoping, Ye Jianying, Yang Shangkun, etc. of the Party and Country and foreign friends. Each Party Congress and People¡¯s Congress are held here. Many activities, such as, Qingdao Economy & Trading Negotiation, Fine Products Exposition, Fashion Fair, Guizhou & Xizang Zest Exhibition, etc. were held here. Many art troupes from over thirty countries and regions, for instance, America, Russia, France, Austria, Canada, Japan, all successfully put on performances in China. Besides, national and provincial art troupes ever held large-scale literary performances here.
In July of 1997, the government invested 15,000,000 RMB to remold facilities of the Congress Hall, aim at a perfect location of comprehensive functions combining performance, celebration, negotiation, entertainment and to hold conferences of different scales and undertake large-scale literary activities.
Qingdao People¡¯s Congress Hall is the center for participation and discussion of political affairs, a window for international friendship development and a garden and palace for citizens¡¯ literary life.
